We asked young people in Enköping

We asked some people in our school what they think about the environment in Enköping. The young people think that Enköping needs to improve some things like waste bins because they think there is too much trash on the ground. Dog poop bins might also be useful. They also think we need more lamp posts, because when it is dark outside there are a lot of places where it is really dark. It needs more pathways for pedestrians and bike riders so it gets easier to get to some places in Enköping. We need to sort garbage and become more energy efficient.

We will bring these suggestions of improvement to the authorities in the municipality and ask them to improve the things the students want to get better in Enköping.

But the students also think we have some good places in Enköping.

The places they like:
  • The Dream park is a park with a lot of flowers and a river.
  • The Harbor is a place with boats and a café with a view over the water.
  • Bredsand is a beach for the family.
  • Klosterparken is a park where many people gather and have a barbecue and have a nice time.
  • Fagerskogen is a place many families visit and where it is possible to pick mushrooms in the autumn.
  • Mälaren – Many people travel by boat across the lake Malaren. Waterskiing and Water scooter are popular activities. There are many beaches along the shores of lake Mälaren and it is possible to take a swim.

Clutter Up

The organization Keep Sweden Clean creates projects to prevent littering. Their aim is to make Sweden the world´s cleanest country.
The campaign to clean up in Enköping started in spring 2008. The campaign was cooperation between different services in the municipality. Most trash was removed during spring. It was important to make children and young people aware of the problem of littering. Companies and organizations were informed about the campaign. The best company was rewarded for its participation.
The main goal was to change people´s attitudes to littering. The municipality of Enköping spends a great deal of money on removing litter every year. That money can used for other things, according to project manager Cecilia Toresäter.
Seven young people participated as ambassadors for the campaign. They organized Trash Picking Days, when they urged schools, companies, organizations and citizens to help making Enköping a clean town. There were 12,410 people who participated in the Trash Picking Days in 2009, which proves that there are many people who want to help. Enköping became the Municipality of the year in 2009 and in 2009.
